Seattle-part one

1 July 2017

Our friend, Dan, took us on a whirlwind tour of Seattle, much of it walking the neighborhoods. We walked over 8 miles covering many sections.  Dan grew up here and was an excellent guide. I only wish we could remember everything he told us. We started in the Seattle Center including a ride on the monorail. I must admit I was surprised at how short the rail track was. It takes just a few minutes to ride the whole thing. The public market was jammed with people and filled will all kinds of good things to eat and lots of things to tempt you to spend money. I did not get the whole gum wall thing.

Down the street is the original Starbucks and the only one to still use the first company logo.  There is a long wait if you want to get a cup of coffee.

We then had a chance to see an overview of the waterfront and the hectic shoreline freeway and stopped for lunch at the famous Ivars Fish Bar.

Next, we headed to Pioneer and Occidental squares, which suffered a tremendous fire in 1889 destroying most of the structures.  When rebuilt, the city grew in population with a growing economy

.

To be continued.

I guess better the gum on one wall than all over the sidewalks and streets. Did you sample any of the flavors? ;c)

What a great city to visit! I enjoyed your photos ... that market is something else, isn't it? Gum wall? Bleah!

We didn't spend enough time in Seattle years ago. I like your pictures that in themselves tell a story. Klondike Museum looks especially interesting. And the Lenin Stature? fascinating. We found a Starbucks downtown that looked like a regular Starbucks. I thought it was nothing special, only to learn it was not the original store I was hoping for. When we did find the real one, we opted not to get a cup of coffee because of the long wait.
