Some history as we move along

We stopped for the evening at the Little Ocmulgee State Park and Lodge.  This started as a CCC project in 1935.  It opened in 1936 and over time the site became rundown and unused.  In 2007 the site was renovated including the historic buildings and opened as a state park and lodge.  We had good weather for our one-night stay and enjoyed a great sunset on the lake.

The next day we made a quick stop at the WWII flight Training Center and museum of  Coffee   County. It was the training center for the 63^rd Air Forces contract pilot school for primary training.  It is said to be the best-preserved training site of its kind in the country. All the buildings have been restored. Much of the surrounding area including the airport has changed little since the school was in operation. It has a limited schedule of open times, which did not include our visit, so we just wandered the site and imagined what it must have been like in the Early 1940’s.
