Myrtle Beach
We are camped ocean front just south of downtown Myrtle Beach. This is our first time in the area and have read about all the things to do. It is clearly a haven for the golf enthusiast and beach lover. Shopping also appears to be high on the list of things to do. Since the weather is much improved, we headed to the downtown area first to get right into it. I have to admit that we were surprised by the rather run down appearance of the attractions, stores and close in resorts, some of which appeared to be one step from closure. This was disappointing but we did learn later that most of the newer stores and attractions have moved away from the downtown area.

After this poor start, we headed out to a boardwalk at the salt marsh at Murrells Inlet. This was originally developed as a way to enjoy the wildlife in the marsh, but now also has a number of restaurants and night life attractions build along the boardwalk, as well. As I have noted a number of times before, no natural attraction is apparently immune from man’s need to make money from it. It is never the less a relaxing walk along the marsh.
Since Myrtle Beach is also well known for the many shows performed year around, last night we headed to Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede for the Christmas show and dinner. It was very enjoyable and very well managed.

With a favorable weather forecast, we will be spending some time enjoying the beach.
