Luckenbach, Texas

Our last excursion in the Hill Country was to Luckenbach, Texas. Now as towns go, this one is not much to look at, but it has survived by the efforts of a few people and becoming a house hold name for awhile when it was the theme of a hit country/western song. Today the “town” survives as a place to gather for music, biker rally haven and for even tourists who want to see the place where everybody is somebody.

We wandered the small area and ate the food, looked at the two tourist stores and listened to the jam session, which was held in the small back room of the post office due to the chill in the air. It was another of those small places that is hard to explain. It does not seem to have any good reason to exist, yet was a pleasure to visit and see others apparently equally interested in a place that—well—just is-because it wants to be.

All things considered, another reason to be on the road.
