Rockport Cemetery

Several people suggested that we make a visit to the Rockport Cemetery. Now, with limited exceptions, I do not really consider cemeteries a tourist attraction. However, we acted on the advice and found the cemetery in full bloom with spring wildflowers after the heavy rain this last week. It was indeed a beautiful display of flowers. In walking the grounds, we also found some interesting stories of the residents of the area who have gone before us. There are a lot of stories in a place like this, one we knew well from our visit to the Fulton Mansion- George Fulton. Others were less clear but intriguing, like the descendant of an Alamo defender, a Confederate veteran, and a two year child.

Always interesting in a cemetery is the care some graves receive, while others have none at all. This may be less the level of caring and more about the cultural approach to the dearly departed. In any case, walking a cemetery is always a good time for reflection.
