Our next
stop was Maumee Bay State Park, Ohio. We
first stayed here in 1989 as we were leaving Toledo, Ohio for a new Coast Guard
assignment in DC. It was a lot different
then and it has only gotten better.
During our full-time years, we returned often to this park, which we
think is one the best state parks we have stayed in. It has large well-kept sites with walking and
biking trails It also has a Lake Erie beach area along with marina and a lodge
for non-camping guests.
There is a boardwalk trail that takes you thru a nature area. We have walked this trail many times over the
years. Before we arrived and while we were there a lot of heavy rain had occurred.
This was the first time we walked the trail when the area was fully
flooded. We did not see the usual amount
of wildlife.
We enjoyed
several days visiting with our friends Gary and Judy, who we have known for
over 30 years.
We also
visited with Chuck and Diane, good friends we met while we were members of the local
Winnebago club but failed to take any
pictures.
It was a very nice couple of days.
