Today we celebrate 223 years of United States Coast Guard service.
This military service continues to provide an important and valuable service to
our country. I remain proud that I was a part of its history for 30 years.
Like me, many of the ships in today’s pictures are retired, but the Coast Guard remains strong and continues to labor for the good of the country.

The Owasco lives on. At least part of it does. There is a shipboard firefighting training school at NWS Earle, NJ. The superstructure of the Owasco is there. It is set on fire by instructors and the students have to put out the fire by going inside it. I trained there in the late eighties.
So, I've had a hot time on the bridge of the Owasco.

I never knew much about the Coast Guard growing up in Eastern Montana. So it is really neat to learn more about them from you and Paul. Thank you guys for all your service.
