Fire Drill

Like many communities around the country, volunteer fire depts. provide the primary fire protection for smaller communities. Every year the local volunteers stage a fund raiser. Here this includes a donation for a sponsored family portrait session. Since this event is held at the fire station, this is also an opportunity to visit with the firefighters and check out their equipment.

There was quite a line for the pictures since they had gotten a lot of walk ins for the event. The photographer picked up the pace and kept everyone on schedule. While waiting we took a tour of the place and talked with the firefighters.

As an added bonus, while we were there they had a call and we were able to observe their scramble to get under way. Victoria did not seem impressed with the activity, so clearly we will be back in a few years when she really can enjoy all the hats, hoses and fire equipment.

Nice to see these volunteer fire departments at work. We have one here in Rocky Point as well, and have an annual bbq fund raiser.

Those firemen are so neat with their equipment, and take such good care of it. Portraits is an interesting fundraiser.

I think I'm going to be singing tonight! :)

The volunteer fire departments do a wonderful service. The one in Pine Mountain would come to the campground when we were hosting there to show their truck to the kids. If it was warm enough they would even give them a spray! They LOVED it!!

Thanks for the tour and pics of your local volunteer fire department. We have one here in Cowichan Bay as well and they do a great job serving our community.

Funny how volunteer fire fighters will do so much more than their paid counterparts. They are not in it for the paycheck, just an overwhelming desire to serve their towns. Great people!

Our towns volunteer fire department saved my house from burning down when my relatives were visiting and decided to build a fire in my fireplace, with several paper firelogs and some wood. By the time the FD arrived, flames were shooting four feet high out the top of my chimney.

Nothing like coming home from work and finding fire trucks and a house full of firemen! :c)

Give Victoria another 3 or 4 years and she'll be enthralled ;) I can see Fire engines under the Christmas tree ;)

Sure was glad to see the word "drill". Scared me for a moment.
