The second day of the balloon festival allowed us to see the start of the fleet liftoff and flight of most of the balloons on the field. There was a full crowd on hand to enjoy the balloons and other activities.
In addition to the balloons, there was the vendor row, a great concert by the well known gospel singer Guy Penrod and finally a great fireworks display.
After most of the balloons took off, the remaining ones set up for tethered rides. This proved to be a very popular event with long lines for the short ride up to about 100 feet. We observed several reluctant riders, who clearly wished to keep[ both feet firmly planted on the ground.
It was a great day outdoors enjoying our first close up of lighter than air flight.
What fun to see so many balloons lifting up ... when I did the balloon ride in Cappadocia a few years ago, we had about 25-30 of them all in one area. Most lifted off before us, so we got to watch them before we took off and joined them.
We wanna go there too! Years ago, too many years, we twice visited the Thunderbird balloon festival in Phoenix. What a fun thing to do. I do believe we would like the smaller festivals more than the Albuquerque blow out.
After over five years of full timing in our 06 Itasca Meridian, we have bought a home and traded the Meridian for a 2012 Winnebago View for our anytime travel adventures.

Big colorful balloons always make such great photos. I would love to see a balloonfest in person....

Don't think I'll try one of those 100 foot balloon rides, that's about 94 feet too far above the ground for me!
You'd probably enjoy the balloon fiesta in NM as well. Riding in one of those balloons is an unforgetable experience! :)

More great pics of the hot air balloons - I like the Pepsi one!
