Our
anniversary is in June and since we had not left for an extended trip north we
tried something different. We traveled
by car to Ocean Springs, MS to a boutique hotel for a few days to explore the
area and just relax. The Gulf Hills
Hotel and Conference Center was started in 1927 and was host to many well-known
figures. These included Al Capone, Elvis, Monroe, Garland and many others…and
now us. It still looks very much as it
did in its early days.
Ocean
Springs is a small water front town that attracts many tourists every
year. We strolled the main streets and
enjoyed a meal in some of its many restaurants.
We also did some
exploring of Biloxi just across the bridge.
While we have been here several times, we wanted to see some things we
have not before. One of these was the Museum
of Maritime and Seafood history. It has
three floors of displays and you can learn as much as you want about the maritime
seafood history in the area.
Back in Feb
on our way to New Orleans, we went to the Long Beach Deli while staying at the
B&B nearby. I thought I might have
left my Lewis and Clark hat there. We went
back for lunch and low and behold they still had my hat!
There are
several tour boats in Biloxi to see the city from the water. We decided on the paddlewheel tour boat Betsy
Ann. It uses the paddlewheel as its only
propulsion.
Our
anniversary dinner was at a well-known restaurant: Mary Mahoney’s Old French
House. The food was very good but a bit
heavy. A tree in the garden called the Patriarch is said to be over 2000 years
old.
When it was
time to head home, we decided to drive along the coast and crossed the causeway
to Dauphin Island. We took the ferry to Fort Morgan in Alabama and drove the
coast roads all the way home. It was a
very nice way to spend our anniversary.

Happy anniversary. The restaurant didn't look too busy but the menu sure sounded good. Sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate.
Great way to spend your anniversary! Jimmy and I used to spend a lot of time in LA and lower MS -- Ocean Springs (home of nutty Walter Anderson) is a fun place to visit. Last time we wanted to cross from Ft Morgan to Ft Gaines, we almost needed to cash in an IRA to pay the toll!
Happy anniversary, you two!
Happy anniversary ... here’s to many, many more years of celebration. Nice getaway trip with the bonus of getting your hat back.
What a neat anniversary gift...... retrieving your hat.
You're an incurable romantic! Nice way to mark a significant date in your lives. :c)
Happy Anniversary...what a grand way to spend it. Amazing your hat was still there. The ferry from Dauphin to Fort Morgan is a nice relaxing ferry ride.
