On our
free day in Kansas City, we headed to Independence, MO to visit the Truman
Library. I would venture to guess that
if President Truman would walk down the streets today, it still would be very
much as he remembered it. We had lunch
at a restaurant on main street that is well known for its German food, not to
mention the great beer.
The
library is just a few blocks from the home that he and his wife lived in all
their married life, even returning here whenever possible while they were in
Washington. The exhibits provide insight
to his personal and public lives. He
became president just before the end of WII on the death of President
Roosevelt. He had many huge problems to address and had to make hard
decisions. He is the only leader, so
far, who has made a decision to use a nuclear weapon. The use of the nuclear bombs in Japan was
estimated to save up to a million allied casualties.
President
Truman and his wife Bess are buried on the grounds.
For those
interested in history, it is a must-see library.

We've visited a few of the President's libraries. They have all been very interesting and hopefully we'll be able to visit more.
Truman inherited a mess and did the best he could with it.
Wonder what he'd think about today's mess? :-)
Great pics!
We really enjoy visiting President libraries. This one is another good one. Boy how scary your comment is about the only President, so far.... This is a very scary time for that nuclear war heads.
We also enjoy visiting Presidential Libraries with the Truman Library being one of the best.A simple midwestern man who enjoyed the simple things of life. Truman made the decision to use the atomic bomb against Japan, helped rebuild postwar Europe, worked to contain communism and led the United States into the Korean War (1950-1953).Will we be led into the nuclear option again by Trump....if so,there may be no Trump library to visit.
What awesome history!! We have not visited this Presidential Library but would love to!! Thanks for the tour!!
This is a place that is high up on my bucket list. Truman faced and dealt with many serious challenges and history seems to have forgotten how well he dealt with them.
