The end of October, we headed north to Georgia to
visit our grandson and family, visit friends and hopefully visit some new
areas.
Our first overnight stop was the Fort Benning
recreation area and campground. The
recreation area is located in Alabama, near the town of Fort Mitchell. Just
across the river in GA is the main Army base.
We knew they had a large campground and did not expect to have any problem getting an overnight spot. We went to the check in point at the general
store and they had one site left for that night. This time we got lucky. We had
seen large tents going up near the camping area with signs for an Oktoberfest event starting the next day. They gave us all the info for the Oktoberfest
and told us if we were interested in a
camp site or cabin they fill up a year ahead. That
event will go on the to do list.
Our second stop before seeing our grandson and
family was one of our regular camp spots for a number of years-Harvest Moon
campground in Adairsville, Ga. Nice
sites, full hookups and free popcorn. We stayed here when visiting family while
we were full timing and our motorhome was too large to mooch camp. It is a
great overnight stop just off I-75.
The highlight of our visit with Aleister and his
parents was a visit to the Chattooga Zoo.
This was our first time here,
While small compared to many city zoos, it was well laid out and we had
a great time there. Only Aleister
decided to ride a camel.
Puff Adder
Fennec Fox
Capybara
Red Panda
The Boss
Scottish Highland bull
Rhinoceros Iguana
Komodo Dragon

I love zoos. I think the best one I have been in is the San Diego Zoo. It is huge. Takes two days to see it all.
Free popcorn! Sign me up!!
That seems to be a very nice zoo, and the camel ride is a plus. I think I rode on one many years ago, or maybe I just sent my kids up on one! I love the little foxes.
We've been talking about visiting the Phoenix Zoo again. We love going too.
Free popcorn?!!! That campground is now definatly on our list of "Must Stays". :c)
We always try to visit a zoo wherever we are
