Today we celebrate the 220th birthday of the United States Coast Guard. This military service continues to provide an important and valuable service to our country. I remain proud that I was a part of its history for 30 years.
Like me, the ships in today’s picture are retired, but the Coast Guard remains strong and continues to labor for the good of the country.
Happy Birthday-Coast Guard!

Wahoo Coast Guard!! What did you do in the Coast Guard?
I spent most of my time in the Marine Safety program. That program is responsible for ensuring all commercial vessels comply with national and international laws.
I have traveled much of the world inspecting ships and dealing with other governments on these issues.
My least favorite duty was overseeing the cleanup of oil spills. As you have probably have seen in the current gulf oil spill, there is no fun to be had in that process.
Congratulations on your service to our country and Happy Birthday to the Coast Guard!
Thanks to you for you service and thanks to the coast guard. The Coast Guard and a large freighter undoubtedly saved our lives on one particular occasion in the Florida Keys.
