St Andrews, New Brunswick

After crossing the border with no problems, we arrived in our first stop of our Atlantic Canada caravan.  While driving into town, we stopped to do some grocery shopping and obtain some local currency. Next, we checked into the campground and set up in our temporary spot for one day. We will be moving to our waterfront site when it is vacated tomorrow morning.

We walked the 15 minute trip into town to explore the sights.  St. Andrews is considered to be one of the prettiest of the coastal resort towns in the northeast. Over half the structures were built before 1880 and there are 14 that have survived from the 1700's.  There are a number of houses that were moved piece by piece from Castine, Maine across the bay to here after the end of the war for Independence from England by loyalists that did not care for the outcome.

One of the reasons I am particularly interested in this area is its location on the Bay of Fundy. This area is famous for its large range of tides which provides some striking landscapes not to mention the challenges to marine navigation.

We boondocked right at that very spot...but it was near the end of March, 2011 and the campground wasn't open yet!

Looks like you're enjoying yourselves. We've always wanted to see the Bay of Fundy. It's hard to imagine those kinds of tides.

Loving the pictures of New Brunswick. It looks so peaceful and tranquil even in the way the community is settled.

It's about time.

Chuck, so excited you're doing this trip! St. Andrews is indeed a beautiful place. We stayed at this same campground last year. It's lovely there, and the tides on the Bay of Fundy are truly amazing!

You certainly chose a great time to getaway, all the rain here from Tropical Storm Bill has put a major "dampener" on activities in the US. :c(

Wow this looks like such a beautiful place to stay. I love the story of the houses being moved from Maine by Loyalists so long ago. Thanks for the tour and information. I've always wanted to see the Bay of Fundy.
