No vet visit and a cog railroad trip

After some ice packs, which Halley particularly appreciated and her own licking of the offending paw, she started to show improvement. By this morning, she was back to her old self.

Because she was as back to normal as she gets, we decided to head to the Mount Washington Cog Railroad. This rail line was the brain child of Sylvester Marsh after a near death experience climbing to the summit of Mount Washington. So in 1866 he designed and started work on the cog railroad that would allow anyone to reach the summit in safety and comfort. The line was completed in 1869 and has been in operation ever since then. The approximately three and half mile journey takes about 40 minutes.

Mount Washington makes the claim of having the worst weather in the world. While I cannot confirm this claim, I can note that as we started the assent, we had clear and sunny skies and before we reached the top the clouds rolled in blocking much of the view. This was followed by windy and rainy conditions. On the way down, the sky cleared with sunny conditions again. They also lay claim to the highest wind ever recorded -231 MPH.

It was a fun trip with the maximum angle of climb being 37degrees. I should note that not only is the climb steep, but the price of the ride is also. It was $124 for the two of us. There is also an auto road up the mountain, which gets mixed reviews for safety. When you compare the cost for using the road and the wear and tear on the car, the clog railroad is not that bad of a deal.

Glad the paw is better, but wish you had better weather to paw around in at the top! :)

The cost would probably make us think twice, or five times, before we did it. But it sure seems to be worth it. Glad to hear Halley's paw is much better.

That trip looks like it was well worth it.

Thank goodness for Halley's paw - those vet visits can get $$$

So glad to hear Halley is doing better! Good news!! We always worry about our little furry children!
That was some climb you all took. Sounds like you experienced several different types of weather on that trip.

Sure would like to get to Vermont (plus all other New England States, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, etc.) some day. We'd pay that fare just to ride the cog railroad! Don't expect to ever get there now, but we can still dream, can't we! In the meantime, we'll follow along with you and others than do get there. It's a fun ride.

I find I'm starting to look at attraction prices as "How many gallons of diesel fuel would that buy?"

Then, you can't put a price tag on fun memories. BTW, if you blew off the mountain in one of those 231 mph winds, would they refund your money, or at least half of it because you only rode one way?

Glad little Halley has recovered!

Glad Halley is fellin' better. We didn't even check out the cost of the cog Railroad when we were there years ago, the cost of driving to the top scared us enough.

So many childhood trips to NH, yet haven't done the cog railway. I remember my mom and sister coming back from one trip and they were covered in soot! Maybe that's why I've put off going up myself.
