Quiet time in Crossville, TN

We are finishing up a quiet three day stay in Crossville, TN, at the Spring Lake RV campground. This is an adult only place with full hookups including 50amp, free WI-FI and cable. The spots for the most part are level with decent outside space. It is used regularly for rallies. During our stay there was a FMCA and Good Sam rally in the park. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Most of our time here was spent walking around the park and enjoying several big campfires. We also took advantage of the WI-FI to catch up on some of the data intense internet work. This was a relaxing and enjoyable stop.

Of course, we could not pass up visiting one interesting site mentioned in the Roadside America web site. It is possibly the world’s largest tree house. Built by a landscaper over nine plus years, who says he found God in the process. It has become a place for all kinds of people to hang out and in some cases make it their short term squatter residence. The builder, Horace Burgess, is rarely there. Although, anyone entering the premises is trespassing, he has never done anything to prevent access and in many ways encourages visitors by his actions.

We walked around the structure, which is indeed huge, but after examining the construction, decided not to enter or climb the hundred or so feet to the top. It is a very strange but interesting place.

Tomorrow, we head further south. The forecast for the area east of Knoxville above Pigeon Forge in the mountains is a chance of snow up to 15 inches.

We spent last winter in Townsend TN and it snowed every day. We never had much snow on the road but it just coming down. It was one of the coldest winters ever! I know we will have a cold winter here in MD. Take care

That huge tree house looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Pretty impressive though! I think you were wise to look at it from the ground only!

Golly, all you folks out there traveling to interesting places and showing us stuff! We'll be back on the trail again next spring, but it's mostly for family visits and Point A to Point B. We'll try to come up with some interesting stuff to do on the way between. Thanks for the story about the neat tree house. And yeah, we probably would decide not to set foot inside either!

Cutie of an "assistant driver" you have there! That treehouse is something else. Would love to see it...from the ground. Don't think I would venture in it. Safe travels....
