The end of an era

It is well over a year since I have written a blog post.  While we were spending time at the Skinny Winnie rally in Tallahassee, Fl we started getting information about the virus that would become a pandemic.  As we heard more, everyone at the rally started to think about ways to protect ourselves.   We continued on with the rally and had a good time.

Once we returned home it was all about the virus and how to deal with it.  We ended up spending most of the following year at home.  During this period, we had to deal with a number of issues with the motorhome.  After considerable discussion, we came to the conclusion that it might be time to find something else to enjoy.  So, after 15 years of full and part time traveling in a motorhome, the Winnebago View has been sold and we start a new period of life without an RV.

Over the last 40 years we have had four motorhomes:

The first one was a very used 21ft 1978 Coachman that took us out west.  We did not have it long due to its poor condition.

The second one was a new 27 ft 1988 Tioga Arrow which was a great coach to travel with the family without all the current high tech stuff, it performed very well with very little problems.  There have been times I wished I still had it!  We put 35K miles on that RV.  Then we stopped Rving for a long period and became sailors.

In 2006 we decided to go full time traveling in a motorhome.  We choose a Winnebago Meridian 40ft. Our journey lasted until 2012.  It was a great time.  We gave up full timing to spend time with our two grandchildren and their parents who were living in FL.  We traveled 50K miles in this motorhome.

In 2012 we traded the Meridian for a Winnebago View since we did not loose the urge to travel in an RV and bought a home near the kids.  We put 75K miles on it as we drove around the country and ventured into the Maritime Provinces of Canada.

Our first new style of travel will be a trip to Iceland.

I sure do hope you will continue to blog about your travels even if they aren't in an rv. Iceland sounds exciting.

Completely understand your moving on to new types of travel and new adventures. After all, you really couldn't drive the View to Iceland. That sounds like another trip of a lifetime. Here's to many more trips like that. You'll have to post about the Goldenshoe Icey Trip! :cD

Looking at your blog list, it is disappointing how many former bloggers are no longer blogging. We loved our five days in Iceland in 2012... it's such a photogenic country.

What a pleasant surprise to find you in my blog feed. So many of us have given up the RV life, many like us due to health issues. And those without health issues just find that it is time for a different lifestyle. I wish you well and hope to find you again in my feed. Even though we settled into a house over 4 years ago, I still continue to blog but it's just a bit harder to find something interesting.

We know when it's time, don't we? Obviously you guys did. Time for a change. We switched from long trips to shorter ones with more overseas travel, but we continue to blog about being Out and About. Envious of your Iceland trip; hopefully we'll make it there sometime. Hope you'll post about it.

Like Jim and Sandy I hope you'll continue to blog I've missed you. And like Kevin it seems so many of the bloggers that I used to read and that used to comment on my blog are no longer blogging and maybe no longer are being I don't have any way of knowing. It's sad. I still love RVing but it's much harder alone and much lonelier. I wish you the very best in your new adventures and hope you will blog about Iceland.

I'm looking forward to hearing about Iceland. A number of years back I was traveling to Europe with my youngest son, and we had a change of planes in Rejkavik. Due to problems with the plane, we had an overnight in Iceland, with a chance to walk around Rejkavik. It was a great opportunity to see a new place I would never have otherwise been able to travel to. The most wonderful part of the overnight there was the beautifully warm beds in our hotel. Down mattresses with down coverlets keep you warm as toast, and comfortable as well. Expensive to say the least. This was years ago, and I was traveling with my young teenage son - spent $18 in a mall for a slice of pizza for him. I didn't even bother to eat!
