We arrived in New Orleans around midday on Friday and
were welcomed by the large amount of traffic and congestion that I am sure
exists all the time, complicated now by Mardi Gras parades and street
closings. Since we stopped at the
welcome center on I-10, we had some good advice on how to navigate to our hotel
located across the street from the convention center. Once we gathered at the hotel, it was decided
that we would abandon our original plan of using the trolley system to move
around. Instead, we decided to use our
feet. We ended up walking about 15 miles in the two days of exploring New
Orleans.
Our first outing had us heading to the French Quarter
to see the more famous parts of the City.
We came upon several parades and lots and lots of people. Some of which were clearly going to be paying
later for the fun they were having now.
The first thing we saw was a reminder of Hurricane
Katrina in front of the park next to our hotel.
In the French Quarter, it was clear that the party was
in full swing.
We then landed in Jackson Square and decided to visit
the Cabildo museum before it closed. The
museum was damaged again in the latest hurricanes and had only some sections
open. One of the most interesting items was the death mask of Napoleon. One of
four originals cast in bronze.
In Jackson Square, we spent some time watching the
antics of the people. There was a great
view of the square the from Mississippi River Levy. The levies were getting much
needed repairs. Later that evening we would dine at the famous Mureil’s

Though we live just a hundred miles from New Orleans, we seldom visit except to take visitors that have never been there. It is a fun place to visit for a day or two, but definitely wouldn't want to live there.
Looks like you hit the highlights of NO. Did you get a chance to visit the historical area? It is beautiful.
We've had a lot of fun in NOLA over the years. I guess we're overdue for another visit.
Nice pictures of the city, parties and the museum. Sounds like you definitely got your exercise. We also walk whenever we're in a city which isn't often. I'd love to see the mask of Napoleon.
You sure got a workout with all that walking!! We plan a visit there very soon and we will opt to walk as well!! Jackson Square is definitely on the agenda as well as the historic area!!
No matter how many times one visits New Orleans, it's always fun to go back. There's still a lot to see!
