Tyndall Air Force Base

Our last stop on this trip was Tyndall Air Force Base just east of Panama City.  The campground sits on the water.  This can provide some restful time enjoying the setting sun and leisurely strolls thru the wooded areas of the campground.

The campground is also on the flight path of the airfield where the F-22 Raptor jets operate.  This can get very exciting and very loud at times.  We can hear them coming from the time they shove the throttles to full on the runway.  Sometimes, if I am fast enough, I can get outside in time to see them fly over our site.  Occasionally, these passes are very low. Because we are in the trees. if I want any shot of the planes, I have to be very fast.  When they are on the deck (very close to the ground) it is even harder to get a shot.  They display a tremendous power and agility.

We also visited to historic district of Panama City and the new shopping areas of Panama City Beach. The historic district seems to be holding its own with most the buildings occupied by small businesses.  One of them was the original J C Penney store which was at the downtown location until the latest mall was opened and they moved out of the downtown area. The building now holds a huge antique store. Over all it was an interesting tour.  The new shopping district was OK (if you like shopping) but not unlike the ones you can find in nearly every part of the country.

Anneke looks like she is enjoying the view.

Looks like you were either up early on your visit to Panama City, or everyone was at work. The streets look deserted.

We loved that area. You are much faster with your camera than I. Loved watching the planes but just couldn't quite capture them :)

I liked those old, dead trees that they carved wonderful things onto! They had a beauty all their own... Also remember the bombing training at night when I was in Navarre.. that was scary at 1st not knowing what was going on :0

Great pics of a beautiful looking area. It sure looks quiet right now but I suppose that may change a bit in the coming winter months.

We drove through Tyndall but didn't stay there. We stayed down the road at Eglin. The area is really a nice place to spend some time. Good job on catching the planes in motion.

Chuck, looks like you displayed significant power and agility in getting out from under the trees fast enough to get the great picture of the planes overhead! Love seeing the older shopping districts in places like this--the unique character each has is a refreshing change from the sameness of the typical mall scene. I, too, am fascinated with old weathered trees and the interesting shapes they have become. Great pictures!!

The base campgrounds are really nice. Your site looks terrific and that swing is wonderful. Beautiful water views. The clouds reflection is lovely. Really nice pictures all around.

I'd be running out to catch a photo of the planes too... except they'd be long gone by the time I figured out where they were! You are to be commended for your abilities :-)

I'll be happy to have your blog as a resource when it comes time to planning our first Florida trip. Thanks for the efforts you put in.

A campground on the water ... what's not to like. I don't know what it is about that last photo ... but for some reason it speaks to me.

An aptly named campground. I'd pay money to fly in one of those jets! ;c)
