Cruising Alaska

Our first two days onboard the ship were at sea days.  We spent a fair about of time familiarizing ourselves with the ship and enjoying the onboard amenities.  Our first full day underway was a tour of Yakutat Bay.  This is another stunning mountain rimmed bay with one vista after another.  There are several large glaciers in the bay along with lots of wildlife. This is another part of Alaska that can only be seen by ship or plane.  It was really enjoyable to be able to sit on our stateroom balcony and enjoy the view.  When the urge to walk around took over , you could wander the ship and continue to enjoy nature.  We traveled all the way up the bay to the largest Glacier-Valerie.  It was truly massive in depth and width and its length simply disappeared up in the mountain  range.

When we first entered the bay in the early morning, there was a large cloud cover over the area with some fog.  But as we moved up the bay, our luck continued to hold and the skies cleared for a great view.

The main reason it has taken me so long to get this blog out is sorting through all the pictures and having to eliminate so many of them.  I hope the pictures do tell the tale.

Your choice of pictures definitely showed how majestic it is. And that's quite a ship you're on. But I would think it would be too cold for that pool.

I think your pictures have been stunningly beautiful, and you show scenes that can only be seen from a boat, while your land travels got the other views. Best of both worlds!

Absolutely stunning pictures! You had some great weather for the cruise. What a journey!

That water with all the floating ice looked really cold. I hope the onboard pools were heated! :c)

Your pictures sure bring back wonderful memories. We did the cruise back in 2002. Loved every bit of it except the sea days. We had a rough ride and I turned a little green :)

Your glacier pictures are fantastic. We took a cruise on the inside passage and the blue glaciers just amazed me. Although it was sad to see them calving (melting). That's some fancy ship you were on.

We could do with a bit of that coolness right about now. Those are some awesome photos.
You guys sure you wouldn't like to sell Alaska to Canada? We'll bail out Detroit, and do a straight swicheroo. Howssat?
Have fun.

Aahhh ... brings back great memories. Yakutat Bay was not included on our itinerary ... thanks for taking us somewhere new ... but I'm also looking forward to some of the places we might have visited on our cruise.

Love all the photos - simply stunning. I love the blue of the glaciers. I loved cruising the inside passage but Russ got seasick. Still, it's a beautiful trip. Looking forward to the rest of your Alaska posts.

I'm just now catching up on your blog. Oh my such glorious photos. I sure appreciate you sharing them. We have considered a cruise and am really thinking we should. Those photos of the ice floating on the surface of the water is stunning. Love the blk/white ones too.
