Carriage Hill Farm

On our last day in the Dayton area, when the sun finally showed itself, we visited Carriage Hill Metropark, near our daughter’s home. This metro park preserves a 5 generation family farm that represents farm life in Ohio in the 1880’s. The farm operated from 1830 thru the first half of the 1900’s. The park is used for recreation and for learning about life on an Ohio farm.

We learned about the many people that called the farm home and how they lived and worked thru 150 years of farming. The pigs were particularly amusing but their pictures had to be edited to avoid an X rating for this post. The volunteer reenactors provided a great deal of information and background on the farm.

It was a quiet and very pleasant way to spend a sunny afternoon.

Nothing like the sweet smell of pigs on the farm. Reminds me of 21 man berthing on a 378! ;c)

Good idea to have the clamps and belts checked. Don't forget to have the exhaust brake lubricated, too. Preventive maintenance is in my old MKC blood...

Loved the horse picture. And the pigs could have made for interesting comments.

Growing up not far from Dayton (Cincinnti) I've only been there a few times, but I've spent lots of time on the farm. I agree the pigs would have been a good picture.

I enjoy these open air type museums. There's a similar park not far from where we are that we've enjoyed visiting. The docents always have such informative tidbits to share.

Such a lovely farm - so peaceful looking. I love the pony with the shiny brown coat - how sweet.

Looks like a wonderful place to spend a day. I love these kinds of farms. We visited The Ross Farm in Nova Scotia in the spring of this year and it was very much the same as this farm. The re-enacters were wonderful and informative.
