Reflections

One of my projects while waiting for our new family member to arrive has been to review and reorganize my picture files. I like to think that I have been pretty organized for some time. I have files by year and location in many cases and since 2000 have a pretty detailed filing system. However, with copies and duplicates creeping into my so called system along with some “corrected pictures” mixed in with uncorrected pictures, as they say in the TV shows, it is complicated. Many of my older pictures that have been scanned into my digital system have some interesting file names –like green shoe box pictures. You get the idea. My computer tells me that it is holding well over 75, 000 pictures. So I have my work cut out for me.

As I have been reviewing my life via these pictures, I enjoyed looking at what we were doing for fun just before we decided to go full time in an RV. While in some ways, it is wildly different than the RV life, but in many ways there are lots of things in common, as well. So I thought today I would share some of the pictures from this period. I am sure you will be able to see the things in common with the RV life along with those that are quite different.

Beautiful pictures! Looks like you were a boater before an RV'er. A lot of things in common I would imagine!

Oh, organizing photos! What a job! I gave up on it - my kids would probably just hit 'delete' anyway when I'm dead and gone.

Going through old photos can bring back lots of good memories. I'm partial to nice sunsets, myself, so I really liked your last pic! :)

Margie and Roger are correct that the kids will just hit delete after we are gone, but the true value in the pictures you and we take these days is in (1) taking the picture (including getting there, seeing the sight, considering the best shot); (2) sharing those pictures in a blog or some other manner; and (3) looking back on them time and again, remembering and reliving the joys you have shared together. Organizing them is another matter altogether. We don't have nearly as many collected together as you do, and scanning the old ones is a project begun but on hold. Organizing is a headache for me, but one I know I have to do. Thanks for sharing your reflections!

Virtual trips and past memories thru photos; I started scanning and have a blog that I call "blast from the past;" so much fun ... I'd make more headway if real life didn't keep intruding, but still have 2 years to go before full timing so maybe I will reach my goal of no "hard copy photo" albums by then. Love the sunset shot.

It seems you like your toys. What kind of motorcycle did/do you have?

Beautiful pictures, especially like the sunset at the end.

It's always nice to take a trip down memory lane.

Nice sailboat! I guess you didn't get enough sea duty during your career. ;c)

Looks like you had entirely too much fun with it. Now with your RV, I bet there are times you wish you could still be sailing. But if you break down now, at least you can walk for help!
