Seattle final

We visited the National Park Service Klondike Rush Historical Museum.  The Klondike gold rush turned out to be a gold mine for the businesses in Seattle.

We then visited Pioneer Square.

The highlands area with fantastic views of the city and bay.

The Fremont area is said to march to its own beat and that is readily seen as you walk the streets.  

Nearby is the houseboat area made famous in the Sleepless in Seattle movie.

Volunteer park and the botanical gardens.

Seattle-part one

Our friend, Dan, took us on a whirlwind tour of Seattle, much of it walking the neighborhoods. We walked over 8 miles covering many sections.  Dan grew up here and was an excellent guide. I only wish we could remember everything he told us. We started in the Seattle Center including a ride on the monorail. I must admit I was surprised at how short the rail track was. It takes just a few minutes to ride the whole thing. The public market was jammed with people and filled will all kinds of good things to eat and lots of things to tempt you to spend money. I did not get the whole gum wall thing.

Down the street is the original Starbucks and the only one to still use the first company logo.  There is a long wait if you want to get a cup of coffee.

We then had a chance to see an overview of the waterfront and the hectic shoreline freeway and stopped for lunch at the famous Ivars Fish Bar.

Next, we headed to Pioneer and Occidental squares, which suffered a tremendous fire in 1889 destroying most of the structures.  When rebuilt, the city grew in population with a growing economy
