It was when ...I remember the Whittier Tunnel well. It was when we were waiting for the tunnel to open to vehicles that we spotted our very first black bears - two of them rolling and playing in the mountain. The ride through the tunnel used to be even more interesting before 2001 when they used to load vehicles on flatbed railcars for the ride through the tunnel.
