Just a few
miles from Pine Mountain is the town of Warm Springs, GA. It is best known for the Georgia home of FDR
just a short drive from town. FDR first
came here when he was Governor of New York for polio treatments. The hot springs were thought to help with this
condition. He liked the area so much
that he built a home nearby called the Little Whitehouse. He was a great benefactor to the town and was
very popular here. His last visit was in
April of 1945, when he fell ill and died at the Little White House. We visited this park a few years ago and it is
a real historic gem.
Today Warm
Springs is a tourist town attracting many visitors each year. It does not take long to see that FDR is not forgotten.

Roosevelt State Park is known for its scenic drives, trails and backpacking
opportunities. It also has a road side
stop that was said to be President Roosevelts favorite viewing point, Dowdell’s
Knob. It was indeed a beautiful drive.
I've always wanted to go to Warm Springs and really enjoyed reading about your visit.

ReplyDeleteIt's sad that FDR passed away there before he could see the end of WWII. Nice that the town remembers and honors him.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I get to stop there on my way north from St.Petersburg. It would be interesting to see his retreat there.
