13 in an RV

We hustled north on a rainy stormy Friday to meet with our Ohio Winnebago club for the last campout of the season. It was taking place at one our favorite state parks in the country-Maumee Bay State Park. This campground is exceptionally well laid out with not a bad spot to be found, all level with a great view of nature. We mustered seven coaches. The plan was the usual campfires and outside activities along with food and good conversation. Unfortunately, the weather was not going to cooperate. We had lots of rain and steady winds in the 25MPH plus range for three straight days.

We just moved all events (not the campfire) into the motorhome of the club president, all 13 of us enjoyed the food and conversational fun. I am glad to say we did not do any permanent damage to their coach. We did make a quick trip to the park beach along Lake Erie to watch the surf with Halley. Here the winds were well over 30 miles an hour. We had to cut our visit short as Halley managed to get a piece of shell in one eye. Luckily we had some bottled water with us and after seeking shelter in the car, managed to hold her down and flush the eye with the water and safely removed the shell piece. She was no worse for the experience.

As often happens, after the group headed home on Sunday, the weather cleared and we were able to enjoy one of the hiking trails through the wetland area of the park, spotting some wildlife and enjoying the fresh air and great views. The deer were active in the campground and in the wooded areas. I always enjoy watching them. In the far distance you could see the Toledo Lighthouse, which was one of our landmarks during our sailing life over the years we lived in the Toledo area.

We have made plans to visit with a number of friends over the next week before heading for our annual motorhome service.
